Alpha Hydroxy Acids in the Cosmetic Treatment of Photo-induced Skin Ageing
نویسندگان
چکیده
---------------Synopsis The continuous adverse effects of light of over the years add to normai ageing processes. This increases the number and severity of wrinkles, reduces the efficiency of celi mechanisms responsible for the reparation of damaged genes due to UV rays in photo-exposed areas, causes actinic keratosis, slows down epidermic celi turnover and reduces surface lipids, the moisture leve! and, as a result, the suppleness of the skin. The noticeable adverse effects generally decrease with the use of retinoic acid-based drugs or cosmetic-based products including various acti ve components, from collagen to sodium lactate and aminoacids, from gelatine-glycine to Pyrrolidone Carboxylic Acid (PCA) and the newly-used Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), such as, for example, glycolic acid. This double-blind study aims to contro! the activi ty of 8% AHAs and gelatin-glycine-based cosmetic emulsions over 90 days clinically evaluating the number of thin wrinkles. Furthermore, the surface lipid film, the pH value and the skin moisture leve! were tested with the computerized methodology 3C System®. Finally, the celi turnover was tested with the "Scrub technique".

Epidermal and dermal effects of topical lactic acid.
BACKGROUND Many alpha-hydroxy acid products, containing low- or high-acid concentrations, are being used. It is not known whether different products perform differently or whether they modulate changes in both the epidermis and dermis. OBJECTIVE The purpose was to examine whether treatment with 5% and 12% lactic acid produces different cosmetic results and produces changes in the epidermis an...
متن کاملAn antiaging skin care system containing alpha hydroxy acids and vitamins improves the biomechanical parameters of facial skin
BACKGROUND The demand for antiaging products has dramatically increased in recent years, driven by an aging population seeking to maintain the appearance of youth. This study investigates the effects of an antiaging skin care system containing alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) in conjunction with vitamins B3, C, and E on the biomechanical parameters of facial skin. METHODS Fifty two volunteers follo...

Background and Aim: Anti-inflammatory and hypo- pigmenting effects of topical tretinoin and alpha-hydroxy acids have been documented. This study was designed to compare the efficacy of 0.05% tretinion cream with 7% alpha-hydroxy acid in the treatment of ephelides. Methods: In this clinical trial 80 patients with ephelides were selected and allocated into two groups. One group was treated with ...
متن کاملCoenzyme Q(10) enhances dermal elastin expression, inhibits IL-1α production and melanin synthesis in vitro.
Coenzyme Q(10) (CoQ(10) ) is a well-known antioxidant and has been used in many skincare products for anti-ageing purpose. However, the molecular mechanisms of CoQ(10) function in skin cells are not fully understood. In this paper, we compared the effects of CoQ(10) on primary human dermal fibroblasts from three individuals, including adult. We demonstrated that CoQ(10) treatment promoted p...
متن کاملPreparation and evaluation of cosmetic patches containing lactic and glycolic acids.
BACKGROUND Alpha-hydroxy acids such as glycolic acid (GA) and lactic acid (LA), are used in cosmetic patches. The important fact in cosmetic patches is its suitable adhesion and peel properties. AIM The objective of this study was to prepare LA- and GA-containing cosmetic patches and evaluate in-vitro/in-vivo correlation of adhesion properties. METHODS Pressure-sensitive adhesives with diff...
